1. The power of the present moment
Madhukar teaches us that true power lies in the here and now. By focusing on the present moment, we can find inner peace and freedom.
The here and now is often associated with mindfulness. It is important to know that in Advaita the here and now is different from mindfulness. In my experience, explanations are not helpful, the best thing is to experience it for yourself. In a retreat, for example, which you can find here.
2 The importance of mindfulness
Mindfulness is considered a central part of the spiritual path. Madhukar does not talk about mindfulness per se. Rather, he reminds us of the importance of being mindful and living in harmony with our true self. And how does that work?
When Madhukar talks about mindfulness, he rather means that you should remain alert, oriented towards awareness. In short, he says: “Be!” or also: “Remain aware.” And if you can’t do anything with this short request, then take part in a satsang and meet him. Because in his presence, this being becomes very obvious. And this brings us to the next point I would like to show you:
3. The art of meditation
Again, I have chosen a spiritual term that Madhukar himself rarely uses: Meditation. Madhukar shows us the transformative power of meditation. By regularly orienting yourself towards the Self, consciousness reveals itself to you and you can experience your true nature, which is the source of all spiritual wisdom.
He also called this orientation the “Buddha-mood” and asked the participants of the online retreat: “Come into the Buddha mood, the grace of the Buddha, the grace of the Guru.”. This is not a spiritual practice – but rather a remembering of your true being, in every moment anew. Then you live a life in the Buddha mood. Welcome!
4 The importance of compassion
Compassion is considered one of the highest spiritual virtues, especially in Buddhism. Madhukar encourages us to practice the highest compassion towards all living beings by living Oneness. In this way, you can help to embody love and harmony and bring this being into the world.
If you are one with everything – how could you not have compassion? The greatest thing is: it happens effortlessly – you don’t need to learn compassion – it happens when you trust Madhukar – at least that’s my experience. I invite you to find out for yourself whether this is also true for you.
5. The search for inner truth
Madhukar encourages us to keep searching for our inner truth. By opening our hearts and following our inner compass, we can recognize the truth about ourselves.
His invitations are usually poetic. And so this quote comes from a song whose lyrics were written by him. If you click on the image, you will be taken to a pin on Pinterest that will lead you to the corresponding song on YouTube.
6. Enjoy and appreciate nature
Being in nature can be both healing and restorative. Madhukar sometimes talks about it – but he shows it mainly through his behavior. His retreats take place in the most beautiful places in the world. And when we go hiking together, it is he who reminds the retreat participants not to trample the earthworm or beetle on the path.
Or he talks about how much he appreciates the fact that a spider lives in his home – or does he live in the spider’s home? In any case, my experience is that everything looks much more beautiful in its presence. And a hike, a walk oriented towards the One is like my feet touching the earth like a lover with every step. Have you ever experienced that? It’s a spiritual wisdom, that you are, not one you have to learn. If you feel like experiencing it for yourself, I recommend you take part in the summer retreat in Ibiza – where this picture was taken at the sea. It usually takes place in July. Take a look at the retreat overview right here. He will definitely be planning to be together at a beautiful beach in nature.
7 The power of appreciation
The power of forgiveness is often referred to when it comes to spiritual practice. Forgiveness is seen as an act of self-healing, and it is. Madhukar doesn’t talk about forgiveness – but he talks a lot about appreciation. He keeps reminding you to orient yourself towards your true self, as a force of self-love, of appreciating yourself.
When you cherish this self, it is like bathing in pure love – what a pleasure!
8 The importance of gratitude
Gratitude is the key to happiness. Madhukar teaches us to be grateful for all that we have and thus experience a deep inner contentment.
However, no effort is required for this gratitude to manifest itself in his presence. Rather, it is a “by-product” of living oneness. The testimonials from the retreats are also full of gratitude. What a wonderful life it is when you wake up in the morning with this gratitude and can go back to sleep in the evening blessed by it.
9 The power of simplicity
There are many concepts and many paths in the spiritual world. That is why there is a flood of spiritual wisdom. Advaita is a “non-teaching” because you are not learning anything new. Rather, you are turning away from everything towards what has always been there anyway – the pure essence, the pure consciousness. No concepts are needed for this.
Madhukar repeatedly emphasizes that it is not necessary to study and practice for years. He says again and again: “You are already free!”. And he loves poetry, which is why he asks in his song “Hari Om”: “Are your wings clipped?” No they are not, you are as free as a bird – but you can’t see it because of all the concepts. The many spiritual concepts also tend to keep you from seeing and living it. And in Madhukar’s presence you too can experience this simplicity.
10 The search for the true self
Ultimately, the spiritual path is about the search for our true self. Madhukar encourages us to break through the veil of illusion and recognize the essence of our being.
Everyone has their own path of spiritual search and sometimes they tell about themselves. Like in the video on YouTube from which the quote comes from this pin. Click on it and you will find the video in the pin from which the quote comes.
