Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu: The Meaning of the Mantra
In the world of spirituality and meditation, there are a variety of mantras that are used to promote tranquility, peace and well-being. One of these mantras is “Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu”. It has a deep meaning and is recited by people all over the world to wish harmony and happiness for all living beings.
Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu: The Meaning of the Mantra
In this blog post we will look at the origin, meaning, language and translation of this mantra. Since I don’t have any professional experience with music, I’ll let a musician have her say today: “Will you please share your experience with the mantra Lokah Samasta Sukhino Bhavantu, with me for the blog, dear Arati?” “Yes, I would love to,” she said. And when I read her answer, I heard her laughing inside. So fire away, dear Arati: “So what’s your experience with the mantra?”

Namaste,
Do you also like to sing like me?
Just like that, out of pure joy of life!
My favorite thing is to sing Indian mantras. Something happens inside me while chanting the sacred syllables, words and names of the deities. A subtle energy unfolds and my body vibrates internally, almost as if I were docked to a divine outlet.
The mantra “Lokah Samasta Sukkhino Bhavantu” is one of my favorites. It means: May all beings in all worlds be free and happy. What a beautiful wish! In addition to the clear pronunciation of the syllables, the correct intonation is also important. Then the rhythm and the melody are also based on this when composing. Thus a small, own music cosmos develops.
Sometimes I compose melodies to the mantra words myself.
The other day I spontaneously made a recording of our session with a friend. You can find it here… and it’s in Sanskrit and German.
Groove in and just sing along.
In the live retreats with Madhukar we also like to chant together in the group.
The energy created by so many people chanting is full of power, joy of life and lightness.
You almost feel a little “high” afterwards.
Maybe you would like to chant with us! Here you can find the next dates of the retreats, when we also sing.
Thank you so much, dear Arati – it is always a pleasure to hear your voice. A little bit it feels like a little fairy floats around me and envelops me in that feeling you have when you sing. It gives me joy.
Where does the mantra come from and in what language is it written?
Origin and Language: The mantra “Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu” originates from Sanskrit, an ancient Indian language that is considered the mother of all Indo-Aryan languages. Sanskrit is often used as the language of mantras, Vedas and classical Indian texts. It is known for its precise and poetic expression.
Meaning and Translation
The mantra “Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu” can be translated in various ways, but in general it means, as Arati wrote, “May all beings in all worlds be free and happy. ” It is an expression of the desire for universal well-being and a peaceful existence for all living beings. Thus, it refers not only to human beings, but also to animals and all of nature.
The mantra reminds us that we are all interconnected and that our individual happiness is inextricably linked to the happiness of all living beings. By focusing on the well-being of others and extending our compassion and kindness to them, we can bring a positive energy into the world and contribute to the creation of a harmonious society.

My conclusion on the mantra Lokah Samastah Sukhino Bhavantu.
It is a powerful mantra that reminds us that our well-being is connected to the well-being of all living beings. By reciting or chanting this mantra, we can set our intention to bring positive energy into the world and promote happiness and freedom for all. It is a beautiful practice that reminds us that we are all part of a greater whole and that our actions have an impact on the world around us. May this mantra inspire us to spread compassion, kindness and harmony, both in our own lives and in the world in which we live in.
